SPORTSMAN CLASSES.

It's a new category of showjumping class geared at the grass roots level of the sport..It is widely recognised that a wide number of equestrian enthusiasts ride purely for pleasure at a level below the recognised standards of the SJAI gradin system. Many of these riders compete at pony club, riding club and equestrian centres but would love to be involved with the SJAI.

Sportsman competitions now offer an opportunity whereby these riders may compete under te auspices of the SJAI at a height best suited to that which they are most comfortable with.

The rules for these classes are to a minimum fence height 60cm, 70cm, 80cm (3 classes) and the course may include a double built at 2 strides and at horse distance. The classes are open to registered and unregistered horses and ponies.

An animal may compete in a class with different riders to a maximum of 3 riders and competitions are run over 2 rounds - regardless of faults the copetitior has 2 rounds.

Riders will be issued with a personal jumping record card and riders jumping double clear rounds will gain 2 points.

Points recorded on the individuals card must be signed off by a judge on the day of the show.

On gaining 100 points the rider is entitled to a reduced membership fee for the year and a free bulletin.

This is a pilot scheme introduced this year that has been very successful in the Leinster Region - so let's make it a success in Munster!
