Malaysia clinches one of the most prestigious events
on the International Showjumping calendar!

The KL Grand Prix
will be held at
Putra Stadium
Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur
from
2nd October to 5th October, 2003

On August 20th YBhg Dato’ Mohmad Shaid bin Mohd Taufek, the Datuk Bandar of Kuala Lumpur, launched the logo of the KL Grand Prix International Horse Show in a ceremony at the Headquarters of the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur officially launching the logo for this presitgious event and it has been "all systems go" ever since with acceptances from some of the best International showjumpers in Europe, North America and also Australia.

The KL Grand Prix logo is an image of the horse captured in vibrant colours making it easily recognisable. It breathes finesse, style, elegance and power, representing the echelon of society and the sterling qualities of the horse. The strong bold colours resemble the colours of F1 Grand Prix to bring to mind the identity of a top-class event.

The KL Grand Prix International Horse Show is one of the few CSI five-star showjumping events on the annual calendar of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). A five-star event is the highest rated and the level of difficulty of the showjumping course is equivalent to that of the Olympics. Thus the logo truly demonstrates the standard and nature of the event.

In his speech Datuk Bandar said, “It is very exciting that the KL Grand Prix International Horse Show is happening here in Kuala Lumpur, the Grand Prix City. It is indeed very fitting that yet another Grand Prix event is being held in our city, the most important gateway to the nation.”

He also remarked, “It is my vision to develop Kuala Lumpur into a “World Class City”, with the ability to attract the highest calibre of expertise in the economic, sports and technology arenas. The KL Grand Prix International Horse Show being the very first world-class international equestrian event in Asia will certainly endorse this vision.

Wan Zaleha Radzi, Managing Director, Asiapromote Ventures said, “This is indeed a momentous occasion for us, for the city of Kuala Lumpur, for the country and the region. For the very first time, Kuala Lumpur plays host to the first ever top-league showjumping event to be held in Asia. This is also the aim of FEI to take world-class showjumping out of Europe and America and into Asia.

“We are also very privileged and honoured that FEI has given us the sanction to hold such an event here in Kuala Lumpur. This reflects the confidence that FEI has in the capability of Malaysia to organise a top ranked five-star event, where the course plan is of equivalent standard to that of the Olympics.”

She added, “This is the dawn of a new era in equestrian sports in the region, and our move to initiate an event of par excellence is breaking new ground. And with the support of the Datuk Bandar of Kuala Lumpur, I believe that the event will help spur the development of equestrian sports, taking it to the next level.”

As many as 30 top-ranked riders from the FEI Gandini Jumping Riders World Ranking List have confirmed participation and this certainly creates another milestone for the country in international sporting arena and this definitely puts. Malaysia on the international showjumping circuit! The list of events would suggest that there will something for everyone with speed classes, teams events and also Young Rider competitions. The event will be attracting TV coverage both nationally and internationally.

The venue, which played host to the 1998 Commonwealth Games is nothing less than spectacular and will house a trade expo with equestrian stands and also those which will have a uniquely Malaysian feel showing visitors what this wonderful and exciting country is all about.
