EFA appoints new High Performance Manager

The EFA National Office announced today that Peter Horne will take over the role of High Performance Manager (HPM) in December 2004, replacing Gareth McKeen who has been with the EFA for 10 years and is now seeking new challenges.

Peter has been with Australian Canoeing for the past 6 1/2 years. Initially responsible for Canoe Education, Peter worked extremely hard to instigate a nationally-recognised Award Scheme that delivers the functions, operations, coordination and development of paddling education throughout
Australia. In broad terms this extended to coaching, competition officials, club and volunteer development as well as outdoor recreation.

The past 18 months has seen Peter take on a new role of HPM for the Flatwater High Performance Program. Peter led the Flatwater Team to the Athens Games where he took on the role as Section Manager for the Australian Olympic Committee.

Peter comes to the EFA with extensive knowledge of High Performance management principles including the skills to deal with the often tiresome but extremely necessary tasks of planning, budgeting and financial control.

Peter is a keen Rugby Union player and volunteer official and has also served as a Board Member on the Outdoor Council of Australia.

We would like to welcome Peter to his new role in the EFA. At the same time we would like to thank Gareth McKeen for his long service and outstanding contribution to the sport. There will, however, other and better occasions on which to thank Gareth, as he will stay available until the end
of this year.
