EVENTING COMMITTEE MEETING
Punchestown (IRL), 21 September 2003

The Committee would like to thank all NFs and other parties involved in
Eventing for their input on its proposal sent to them for comments early
July 2003.

NFs were kindly requested to comment on the Committee's proposal on the
future evolution of FEI Eventing Championships and competitions due to the
change of the Olympic Format, format of Young Rider and Junior
Championships, name of discipline and categories for Eventing.

The Eventing Committee reviewed all these comments at their recent meeting
and unanimously agreed to present the following recommendations to the
Bureau for decision beginning December.

The Committee now need to finalize the implementation of the recommendations
in regard to technical specifications, qualifications and other related
issues. Should these recommendations be accepted by Bureau, the general
concept will be circulated to NFs the introduction of changes will be
implemented a transitional period in 2004 to be fully operational in 2005.

Recommendations:

1. Redefinition of Eventing formats:
- CCI Long : Eventing long format as traditional CCI with roads and tracks
and steeplechase (Four Test Competition). = no change
- CCI Short : Eventing short format as traditional CCI without roads and
tracks and steeplechase. Rules similar to the current CCIs including
compulsory Horse Inspection and Jumping as last test. (Three Test
Competition).
- Current CICs : (One Day Event) to be considered as International /
National lower level Events

2. FEI Championship Format:
All existing FEI Championships (Senior Continental, Young Rider, Juniors and
regional) to be organised in the CCI Short format with the exception of WEG
that will retain in future (2010) the option for the long format. CCI Short
format to be introduced for Young Rider, Junior Championships and other
Championships to be held in 2004.

3. Age Group Eventing Young Riders & Juniors
Young Riders Age group: to be changed from 16-21 to 16 to 23.
Reason: allow for a longer competition period for Young riders before
entering Senior competitions, by providing the incentive/interest of a
championship to riders that would not continue otherwise.

Juniors Age Group: current 14 - 18 to be changed to 14-19 as a logical
consequence from the prolongation of the Young Riders age group.


FEI EVENTING WORLD CUP
End of Season

The 18th and last leg of the FEI Eventing World Cup took place in Malmö
(SWE) from 28 to 31 August. The response of both riders and event organisers
to the sport's first linked series was very positive. The qualifiers were
part of well established competition organised in the following ten
countries: Great Britain (4), France (2), Sweden (2), the USA (2), Germany
(2), Australia (2), Italy (1), Brazil (1), Russia (1) and Poland (1). The
Final of the first season of the FEI Eventing World Cup will take place from
24 through 26 October 2003 in Pau (FRA). The competition will be held at the
"Domaine de Sers", France's second training centre for race horses and venue
of the 2001 European Eventing Championship. Similarly to the qualifiers, it
will be organised as a three-star CIC.

Some 308 riders from more than 30 countries and four continents took part in
the qualifying competitions. One hundred and eighty riders scored points
counting towards the final standings. The quality of the riders should be
emphasized given that competitors such as Pippa Funnell (GBR), William
Fox-Pitt (GBR), Leslie Law (GBR), Andrew Hoy (AUS), Andrew Nicholson (NZL),
Blyth Tait (NZL) or Jean Teulère (FRA) took part in more than one event
each. On the basis of the points earned and in accordance with the current
rules, fifty riders will be selected for participation in the Final.

On the basis of this large international representation and the exceptional
level of riders' participation, momentum has steadily built up towards an
exceptional end of season and an exciting Final in Pau (FRA).

2003 GLOBAL DRESSAGE FORUM

The 2003 Global Dressage Forum will be organised on 6 and 7 October 2003 in
Hooge Mierde (NED).

The contributors to the 2003 Global Dressage Forum:

Ulla Salzgeber won the FEI World Cup and the European Championships in 2003.
She is bringing one of her top horses to the Global Dressage Forum. After a
theoretical introduction of her training method she will ride and
demonstrate her skills. The preparation and warm up for big international
competitions will be demonstrated.

Hans van Zetten is sports coordinator of the Dutch army, and involved in
international gymnastics. He was national coach of the Dutch gymnasts and is
now the commentator of Dutch television. The International Dressage Trainers
Club has invited Mr. van Zetten in 2003 to do a research project on the
development of judging in Olympic sports. Mr. van Zetten gave an impressing
explanation to members of the FEI Dressage Committee during the CHIO in
Aachen. He was then invited to repeat the explanation at the Global Dressage
Forum.

The evaluation of Hickstead will be an exciting evening session of the
Global Dressage Forum. It has been prepared in careful coordination between
Mariette Withages, David Hunt and Joep Bartels. The tests of 12 riders at
the EC in Hickstead will be analysed with an ultra modern computer program,
kindly offered by the Dutch National Olympic Committee. Analysis will be
made by 2 panels, of top judges and top trainers.

Arthus Kottas was the 'Oberbereiter' of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna
for many years. He is considered to be one of the riders with the best seat
and an expert on work in hand. Mr. Kottas will bring one of his horses to
show the work from the ground, and he will give a clinic with his daughter,
who has been quite successful recently in the European junior championships.

Richard Weis is a seat expert. He lives near Melbourne, Australia. He was a
dressage trainer for 10 years and then specialised in the dynamics of the
moving body. He graduated as an Alexander therapist and has since then given
clinics all over the globe. In 2001 and 2003 he gave clinics and teached in
Warendorf, Germany, and in September 2003 he was the sensation of the
biggest educational event in Holland, the Academy Horse Event. Mr. Weis will
give a theoretical introduction to explain some backgrounds of body
awareness. He will involve the participants of the Global Dressage Forum in
some of his exercises. Mr Weis will also work with a rider.

Gerd Heuschmann is the veterinarian who made a great impression on the
participants of the Global Dressage Forum in 2002. He is asked back for the
second time as he turned out to be the favourite of the crowd. Mr.
Heuschmann will give theoretical explanation about the anatomy and
biomechanics of the horse. His lecture will be connected to the item of the
German FN during this Global Dressage Forum: the quality of collection.
'What is the connection between the anatomy of the horse and the possibility
to collect', is one of the questions which will be discussed.

Christoph Hess is head of education at the German FN in Warendorf. Mr. Hess
made a great impression at the Global Dressage Forum in 2002, presenting the
item 'from pony rider to Grand Prix' with his colleagues from the
educational and training department. With Germany's national trainer Holger
Schmezer he will now introduce an item on the quality of collection. Mr
Schmezer has been very successful in his career as Germany's national
trainer, winning all major titles with his riders in recent years.

NEW HEAD OF THE FEI COMMERCIAL DIVISION

Christophe Troendle (SUI) 38 years old is joining the FEI as Head of the
newly created Commercial division. Born in Geneva, Christophe has a
University degree in Commercial and Industrial Science.

Having worked for 10 years at Nestlé in Switzerland, Australia and Japan,
Christophe Troendle has an excellent sales and marketing background in a
multinational environment. Since his childhood he has been a sports fan with
a capital "S" and has worked as a ski trainer, as an ad-hoc sports
journalist and has been an active football player. When the opportunity came
up he decided to turn a hobby into a living and joined the UEFA (Union of
European Football Association) where he was, in his position as Marketing
Manager, responsible for all branding issues. For the last two years
Christophe Troendle worked for a Sports Entertainment company, the Anschutz
Entertainment Group Inc. as the Commercial Director of one of its franchise
clubs, the Geneva Servette Hockey Club.


WORLD CUP JUMPING MANAGEMENT

Starting with the new 2003/2004 season, the World Cup Jumping management
will be handled within the FEI Secretariat in Lausanne. Capt John P. Roche
is the Technical Manager and Mrs Wiveka Lundh the Commercial Manager of the
FEI World Cup Jumping.


2004 GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The 2004 General Assembly will take place on 20 and 21 April in Paris (FRA).
The meetings of the Geographical Groups have bee scheduled for 18 and 19
April.

IN MEMORIAM
Jose Jorge Canelas (POR), FEI member of the first FEI Endurance Committee,
died recently, aged 81. He was a former International Judge in Jumping,
Eventing and Endurance and member of the Equestrian Federation of Portugal
for many years. Horse breeder, Jose Jorge Canelas was the former Chairman of
the Portuguese Horse Breeding Association.

Clarence "Honey" Craven (USA) died last 23 July 2003, aged 98.
Honey Craven was for 70 years associated with the National Horse Show (CSIO)
in New York in Madison Square Garden. From 1927 to 1958, he was the
celebrated Ringmaster, then until 1983, he was for 25 years its manager.
