The first ever World Cup Eventing Final is building to an exciting crescendo as the participants are making preparations to move to Pau, in the South of France for an exciting finale to the Eventing season.

Pau is a small, beautiful French town close to the Spanish border and it is thanks to the Mayor of Lons, Dr. Chambaud that this event is happening. The event will be held at Sers which is the second biggest racehorse training centre in France and offers one of the most beautiful arenas in Europe.

Eventing began in Pau in 1991 with 6 nations and 84 participants competing in the CCI* and by now in 2003 they will be hosting 23 Nations at this first World Cup Final for Eventing. Well in excess of 20,000 visitors are expected from all over the globe making for an exciting atmosphere.

The program includes the 3star International Three Day Event combined with the CIC** event - there will also be a number of "entertainment events" such as the Cross Country race on shetland ponies which promises to be fun.

The Trade Stands promise to hold many exciting French products for both horses and riders and there will also be many items of local produce - the "traveling circus" of Trade Stands from countries throughout Europe will be there with all the latest gear and fashions.

CEPP (Competitions Equestres Pau Pyrenees Association) have also organised a private sale of event horses of regional breeding which have a high potential for eventing. These horses have been selected by France's most experience riders and will be presented to the public by way of both loose jumping and a ridden presentation.

Australia, who hold the Olympic Gold medals from the past three Olympic Games will be represented by 5 riders - Matt Ryan (a triple gold medallist), Sam Griffiths and Paul Tapner who are all based in the UK and Megan Jones and Nick Rowe who have made the journey from Australia.

jumpingaround.com will be in Pau to bring you all the colour, results, and atmosphere as it happens so make us your home page and stay tuned for our full coverage beginning Thursday 23rd October, 2003.
