Some really lovely young horses were presented to the judges, Nicole Vanatta, Malcolm Barns and myself, Rosemary Dalton. The judges were looking for quality, correctness, elegance and good movement and the horses were brought into the ring individually with the judges awarding their own marks for type, conformation, the walk, the trot and the canter. The horses were set free in the arena to show how well they could move! The three judges were very close in their assessment and therefore scores for each horse.

Class 1 was for filly foals born before 1/12/03 and 2 fillies presented. The winner was Ashleigh Diana, by Der Lord out of a mare by Ashleigh Brigadier, owned by Caroline Coleby and bred by Colin and Judy Gronn. This was a tall filly with very correct conformation and movement.

Class 2 for filly foals born after 1/12/03 produced only one foal but she was very special - a lovely elegant filly Flowervale Houlana, by Houston out of a mare by Thorston, owned by Kees Wientjens of Flowervale Stud and bred by him.

For the champions the judges had the class winners in the ring together and conferred, without holding up their cards and scoring the points individually. After much discussion, the champion filly foal was Ashleigh Diana.

Next came the colt older colt foals with 3 entries. The winner was a stunner, a well grown dark chestnut colt Hollingrove Romeo, by Rotspon out of a mare by Aachen, owned by Bruce and Deborah Williams and bred by them.

There were no entries in the colt foals born after 1/12/04 and the champion colt foal was Hollingrove Romeo. Hollingrove Romeo was the winner of the Hilltop Farm Supreme Champion Foal. Congratulations to Bruce and Deborah Williams for breeding such an outstanding foal.

There was only one entry in the Yearling Filly class - but a very nice filly indeed. JC Torlene, by Gumbanero out of a mare by Moorella Shilon Louey.

Two very nice yearling colts presented and the winner was Weemilay park Beldamere, by Ritual from a mare by MisterC xx, owned and bred by Ms. Sonya Hancock.

The winner of the 2 year old Filly class was Flowervale Ferraza, by Olympic Ferro out of a mare by Valuta, owned and bred by Kees Wientjens of Flowervale Stud.

The 2 year old Colt class was absolutely outstanding with some lovely colts presented. The winner was Miss Caroline Coleby's Jaybee Don Grande, by Don Schuffro out of the imported mare Glorieux, bred by J and B Edwards, on the huge score of 80.8. Second to him was Flowervale Ferrozo, by Olympic Ferro out of a mare by Limbo Rock, owned and bred by Flowervale Stud - very close with a score of 79.6. Third was Carlyle Park Magrini, by Magritte (the imported Grand Prix dressage stallion owned and ridden by Emma Youngman) out of a mare by Duellschult, bred and owned by Kirsty Beard-Adams, with a score of 78.1. These horses were very close indeed and Jaybee Don Grande won by virtue of his excellent type and soft, elastic trot. I look forward to seeing these colts competing in a few years' time.

Champion Junior Exhibit (Yearlings and 2 year olds) was Jaybee Don Grande.

Only one 3 year old filly - Aquilavale Evaliere - by Torlea Electronic (who is making a name for himself in dressage competition) out of a mare by Valuta, owned and bred by Sabine Benthien and Alan Gathercole.

Mares 4 years and above was won by Hollingrove Winona, by Wunder out of a mare by Authentic Heir xx, owned by A and J Smout and bred by Bruce and Deborah Williams.

Only entry in the Gelding 4 years and over was the Thoroughbred, Shadylane Regal Winfield, by Rule Supremar xx out of the mare Somebody's Angel xx.

Champion Senior exhibit (3 and 4 and over mares or geldings) was Hollingrove Winona.

Supreme Champion Exhibit was between the foal, not yet weaned, Hollingrove Romeo, and the much more mature 2 year old colt Jaybee Don Grande. It was a hard call for such a baby, and Jaybee Don Grande was sashed Supreme Champion. Congratulations must go to Caroline Coleby for presenting this horse so well, and to his breeders, John and Bev Edwards.
