Because the lineup for the Celebrity Race included triple Olympic Gold Medallist and proud Australian, Andrew Hoy in the 26 driver lineup on Friday 5th March - that is why you are seeing it here on jumpingaround.com!

In a lineup which saw Blair McDonough from Neighbours, made his debut in the Big Brother house and now he is driving the latest release from BMW in Australia, the 318ti but sadly he was not at the top of the lineup.

Mark Holden, host of Australian Idol was another who is a well known Australian celebrity with a long career of singing and producing was another to sit in the driver's seat of the BMW as was former Rugby League player and Boxing Champion, Tony Mundine.

The comedy sketches from one of Australia's best known and loved comedians, Libbi Gorr, aka Elle McFeast should be full of descriptive reminisce of her drive in the Grand Prix Celebrity Race and I for one am sorry I am not in Melbourne over the next couple of months to hear her descriptions of the race!

The "story" of the Celebrity race definitely goes to the very generous Danny Wallis, who paid AUD$60,000 for the privilege of driving one of the new 2litre BMW 318ti. Danny, a mad keen Formula 1 race fan and supporter out bid his business partner in a furious bidding war at the Charity Auction which raised money for Brainwave and CanTeen charities.

The other "olympic medallist" to line up for starters orders was James Tonkins a member of the Oarsome Foursome Olympic Gold Medal Rowing Team in 1992 at Barcelona.

And as if proof was needed that it takes a certain "something" to win an Olympic Gold medal, the two Olympians in the Celebrity Race took 1st and 2nd positions in the final result with James coming in just ahead of a fiercely competitive Andrew Hoy, who proved that it is not just equine horsepower that he likes to harness and succeed with!
