| THE
FINAL OF THE MITSUBISHI MOTORS RIDE & DRIVE (Mon 19th Dec)
As the name suggests this is a two-part competition. Part One - ride your horse around a short course of five fences as quick as you can. If you knock a pole or refuse then add 2 seconds to the time. Part Two - Once completed the riding section then dismount (Horse to be taken by the grooms) and run as fast as you can into the Mitsubishi car that awaits you. Buckle up and then off you go - driving through a short course with witches hats marking areas you must cross between. Knock a hat = add 2 seconds or knock a tennis ball off the top of a hat then also add two seconds. Fastest combination wins a Mitsubishi car! EASY!!! As this was the final the top 8 combinations from earlier days heats were battling it out for the car. The crowds loved this event being able to cheer on their favourite riders as loud as they could. The noise was deafening when John Whitaker enters the arena. The commentators informed us that John had won 83.5 cars in his long career show jumping. The point 5 was for the smart car that he had won recently as he felt that it was half a car! Young rider Ban Maher (22yrs), who has had a fantastic career already - a double gold medallist at Pony European level and a member of the British gold medal winning squad at last year's Young Rider European Championships, has demonstrated his undeniable talent this summer with his victories in the prestigious Hickstead Derby and Zuidlaren Grand Prix events. Riding the spectacular coloured stallion Utah Van Erpekom won the Mitsubishi Ride and Drive final to take home the Mitsubishi Outlander.
