The Germans have won the Vaulting Team Gold medal, the Dressage Team Gold medal and the Eventing Team Gold medal - so it will come as no surprise that the bookmakers have the Germans as the 2-1 favourite for the Showjumping Team Gold medal. One of the major sponsors for the FEI World Equestrian Games is an online bookmaker - Bet and Win.com where you can bet online with odds changing daily. Currently the Germans are the favourites for team gold with the USA just behind them at 2.80 - 1. The Brits are third highest on odds at 8.50 - 1 with the Swiss and French coming in at 13-1 odds. Ireland, who are fielding disgraced Olympic medallist Cian O'Connor and his Athens horse, Waterford Crystal are at 26-1 for Team gold while the biggest odds go to Colombia, Russia and Japan who are at 1001-1. The Australian and Saudi teams are sitting at 126-1 but no doubt both teams are more interested in gaining qualification for the 2008 Olympic Games. In the Individual rankings, Germany's Marcus Ehning, who has held number 1 in the world rankings for many months now is at the shortest odds of 5-1, with compatriot Ludger Beerbaum at 6-1. Cian O'Connor is listed at 51-1 and Australia's only representative listed with odds is Edwina Alexander at 101-1 but she is listed as 21-1 to reach the top 4 riders for the final leg of the competition. Monday at the World Equestrian is a day off and then competition begins for the showjumpers - and by Sunday there will be a new World Champion crowned, ending the reign of the quiet Irishman, Dermott Lennon. It is a shame that Dermott will not be defending his title and that the number 2 rider in the world, Jessica Kurten will not be attending the World Championships as the internal strife continues to brew in Irish showjumping. |
