Report and photographs: Christine Johnson

It was hard to believe it was still winter at Clarendon on Sunday as a beautiful sunny day attracted a near record attendance to the Sydney Showjumping Club's competition day. Despite many competitors being away at the Gold Coast Showjumping series and many travelling to the World Equestrian Games, all classes were well filled and it was pleasing to see many new faces in the competitors' ranks. It was also rewarding to see the many new volunteers who came forward and helped out with marshalling and pencilling- thank you new volunteers!

Courses were designed and built by Paul Tridgell and David Lawrence and judges for the event were Jenny Wall, Lyn McLeod and Fiona McLeod. Convenors for the day were Karinda Alpert and Christine Johnson.

The only thing to mar a wonderful day was the tragic death of Ashley and Janelle Warne's talented jumper "Pelicans Rest Ramjet" (Roger to his friends), who suffered a brain haemorrhage at the wash bays and had to be euthanized. Our commiserations go to everyone involved in this very sad loss.

Congratulations to husband and wife riding team, Louise & Luke Dickinson, on the birth of their twins, (a boy and a girl) who made their first visit to SSJC on Sunday.

A speedy recovery to Robyn Evans who broke her humerus in a fall from her horse "Heart of Jazz", but was on hand to watch talented young rider Andrew Barnett ride him for a placing in the 1m class.

Talented young rider Todd Hinde from Bega, who is in Sydney studying, was stylish in ring 1 riding some promising young horses. The convincing win by promising junior, Amy Robertson riding Snobmop, was an indicator of the strength of the talent emerging from SSJC.

Ilse Mathews, Keira Smale, Jenny Hawke, Peter Snitch, Martene Gelle, Johari Lee and Steven Piper all posted great wins, while Sharon Slater gave a polished performance on the very classy "Hendrix" to win the feature event of the day.
