CASSIE A STAR

Nineteen-year-old university student Cassie White of Nyora, a member of the Victorian Sci-Girth International Young Rider Team competing in New Zealand, placed third in the 2004 Star Spotters Championship held at the Show Jumping Canterbury Three Star Championship Show at McLeans Island Christchurch on Sunday. Cassie riding the chestnut gelding Sidetrack owned by South Islander Liz Stewart jumped one of only four clean rounds from the fifty-nine starters. Last to ride against the clock Cassie jumped the fastest round but a touch of the last fence meant four penalties and third placing. The Star Spotters Championship was won by Tracy Kovacs riding Beefeater and second went to Kate Fisher riding My Superman both New Zealanders. Michael Webster of Balnarring placed equal fifth in the Star Spotters with just one rail down in the first round riding Just Red a home bred chestnut gelding owned by South Islander Graeme McClintock.

After the jumping was finished and in between the two competitions Jenny Sheppard swapped her Chef d'Equip and Coach hat for her Tour Guide hat and these photos show just how much fun the team had - and this is all part of these experiences for the Young Riders, especially touring for the first time overseas where they need to remember things like taking their passports with them and coping with different currencies!
