| 16 February 2004 New Australian Dressage Squads Released The Australian Dressage selectors have released the new Dressage National Elite and Talent Squads. Kristy Oatley-Nist features with two horses on both the Elite and the Talent Squads including the newly listed Talent squad member Rosemount Donovan Bailey. Greenoaks Dundee and Heath Ryan are included on the elite squad for the first time.
New combinations on the Talent squad include the exciting stallion AEA Just De Pomme ridden by Dirk Dijkstra and Mathew Dowsley with the young and talented Cinderella. Both Renee Pedretti with Northern Regency and Claire Wickins with Jahnus enjoyed a successful 2003 season and have been rewarded with places on the Talent Squad for the first time. A notable omission from the Elite Squad is Rachael Sanna and Yardley Aphrodite. This wonderful mare has now been retired and put in foal to hopefully produce champion horses for the future. Aphrodite was one of Australia's most successful horses having competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Spain. The EFA congratulates Rachael and Aphrodite on a wonderful career. The dressage selectors were saddened to lose Nadine Merewether from the Talent squad due to the tragic death of her horse Barrabadeen Troubadour late last year. The selectors look forward to Nadines return to elite levelcompetition. The selectors have noted that some of the horses listed on the squads are currently on the market. If they are sold and the horse and rider combination ends, the combination will be automatically removed from the squad. Young Riders The strength of the 2004 Young Rider Squad suggests a bright future for Australian Dressage. Seven of the 2003 squad have again been selected on to the 2004 squad. They are joined by five new faces on the squad including Alexandra Berns (Qld), Jade Hamilton (NSW), Fiona McNaught and Jade Woodhead, both from Victoria, and Kylie Woodyatt (ACT) who represented Australia in New Zealand earlier this year as a member of the victorious Young Rider Trans Tasman Team. Amanda Leggett (NSW) is first reserve with Sarah Matley (NSW) as second reserve. 2003 Young Rider squad member Sara Price unfortunately lost of her wonderful horse Legal Tender. No doubt Sara will return to the top-level competition in the near future. Australian Dressage Squads Released February 2004 National Elite Squad - these lists run as Name - Surname - Horse - State
