With the second leg of the World Cup FInal in Las Vegas done and dusted the final class is set to be an exciting and important one for many of the combinations. Germany's Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum and the very feisty Shutterfly who proved herself a tricky ride at the WEG in Aachen last year has taken the second leg of the Final giving her the points to sit in the gun position for the FInal class on Sunday. But she is not there along side her is Switzerland's Steve Guerdat and Tresor V. Steve formerly rode for Holland's Jan Tops and competed the Australian owned and ridden Pialotta. Michaels-Beerbaum and Guerdat can not sit quietly in their lead however as Switzerland's Beat Mandli is sitting just one championship point behind and Holland's Leopold van Asten is only a further point behind. Sitting in equal 5th is Germany's Marco Kutscher and for the USA Mclain Ward and Merdith Michaels-Beerbaum's husband Markus is only 4 points off the pace. And the German dominance continues with the defending champion, Marcus Ehning sitting in 8th spot going into the final and Alois Pollmann-Schweckhorst for Germany is in equal 9th with Christian Ahlmann (Germany) and Schuyler Riley for the USA. Unless something extraordinary happens in the final the winner of this years title will come from these riders, with the rest fo the field out of the running really. The bookmakers money is on Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum but the game isn't won till the last fence is jumped! Australia's Gavin Chester, considered one of the best catch riders in the world, didn't have a great time with the very inexperienced Warlord II finishing with 24 faults and finishing second last with the two behind him on the scoreboard being eliminated. After
the class Gavin said "I was really pleased with Warlord in the opening
speed class last night but a little bit disappointed tonight. I'd like to
have gotten around with two or three down but it was very difficult, I still
see no reason why my horse couldn't jump that [course] with a bit more time
- those horses at the top are doing this every week in Germany.Having said
that, people will read the results and see we had that many down, but some
of those fences we had down weren't disasters." Saturday sees the consolation Grand Prix running while those in contention for the title class will have a day off, ready to come out fighting on Sunday! |
