To put an end to addiction and social marginalization through individualized paths to recovery based on dignity, honesty, responsibility, respect for oneself and others. To use professional training as an instrument for the total social rehabilitation of the people welcomed into the community To provide support to families, and create initiatives advancing drug abuse prevention and education for a drug free world. To collect economic resources through our activities, as well as through private and public contributions necessary for and consistent with the development of our mission. This amazing facilityhas been awarded high praise and honours from the FEI on Sunday April 15th - the following release comes from San Patrignano: Yesterday (April 15, 2007) in Lisbon (Portugal), San Patrignano was awarded the "FEI Award" by the International Equestrian Federation, in recognition of the Community's achievements as well as its commitment to promoting the social consciousness in the horse world. Present at the ceremony, held during the FEI's annual General Assembly, was Giacomo Muccioli, head of breeding and sport activities for the Community of San Patrignano, the largest residential center for drug recovery in Europe. The "FEI Award", assigned this year to the Community founded by Vincenzo Muccioli in 1978, was awarded by the world's authority on equitation for the results achieved by the horses from its breeding program (several Olympic medals, European and World Championships), but most of all for the belief in the therapeutic value of the relationship between horse and man. More than 700 young men have passed through the community's stables, working with the horses in order to achieve recovery. At the same time, they were able to acquire a skill, enabling them to later find work as blacksmiths, grooms, and in other areas of the horse business. HRH Haya Bint Al Hussein, President of the FEI, expressed her admiration of the work carried out at San Patrignano: "Vincenzo Muccioli, was, in my opinion, a great humanitarian and that his vision should have been so intertwined with horses at a place which has now entered the annals of horsesport is another example of what horses continue to do for man. For me personally San Patrignano has a very special magic because it was there that I gained qualified for [the] Sydney [Olympics] and I have stayed in the community on a number of occasions". "Today there are many former residents of San Patrignano that work with horses, explains Giacomo Muccioli, "Thanks to the 2005 European Jumping Championship we were able to show the world our work and our horses. We were able to let people know about the thousands of people that have recovered from drug addiction through San Patrignano. We would like to thank the FEI for their continued support and help in spreading this very important message".
