With Dublin Horse Show just around the corner the qualifiers have begun and along with the excitement for those who qualify there is always the disappointment for those who miss out on their opportunity to compete at the prestigious Dublin Horse Show, which surely ranks as one of the finest shows in the world.

The first qualifier for 2005 was the Young Riders and the Pony Riders. The Young Riders have two classes - the 1.20m and the 1.30m and for the Pony Riders there is the 128cm Grade A, 138cm Grade A, 148cm Grade A ponies and there is the 6&7 year old 148cm class.

The numbers at Claremorris this weekend were big with 180+ in each of the Young Rider classes and with only 5 going through to Dublin plenty were to be disappointed.

The going was tough enough and in the 1.20m there were only 3 double clears which shows just how tough the class was - and the 1.30m was no easier.

Loooking at the results listed above the day's jumping was tough enough - perhaps the course designers were too influenced by the numbers in the class and made the classes tougher than they normally might.

Thanks to Charles Hanley for providing the photo below of 8 year old Cormac Hanley who has now qualified for Dublin Horse Show and at his tender age this is the second year running that he has done so - and also only the second year he is eligible to do so!
