It was a somewhat surreal experience this week - to be in England in the grounds of Windsor Castle, drinking Kentucky Bourbon over ice and then moving on to a good old fashioned cup of English tea - and you may well ask why this was the case! The FEI European Jumping & Dressage Championships were sponsored by Alltech who are also the sponsors of the 2010 Kentucky World Equestrian Games and they took the opportunity to promote the WEG while in England. To say the Promotional Village was good would be a great injustice! It was fabulous with the smell of barbecue drifting out across the grounds, the sounds of music and laughter from within the Village and the presence of so many with the gorgeous Kentucky drawl around the place. If the Promotional Village is any indication of the Kentucky WEG then anyone not going will be missing an event of a lifetime. The World Equestrian Games are, in some ways, bigger and more important than Olympic Games to the equestrian world. It is an event with two weeks dedicated to the 8 FEI equestrian disciplines and anyone who has ever been to a WEG will know that it is just pure heaven for anyone with an interest in horses - the best in the world are there, both horses and humans and every country that hosts a WEG has the opportunity to showcase their countries involvement in horses. I have yet to visit Kentucky but from all I have read the people of Kentucky are quite horse mad and have some of the best horse properties in the world due to the soil and grazing available to horses - I have no doubt it will be an experience to be there. The traveling Promotional Team for the 2010 Alltech Kentucky WEG was headed by two dynamo's, the Founder of Alltech Dr Pearse Lyons and the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Steve Beshear - one Irishman and one American joined by a love of horses - does life get any better? Throughout the week we were treated to musical performance by 4 very talented singers who brought a vibrancy to the event - and the staff in the Promotional Village were quite obviously passionate about Kentucky and their enthusiasm was incredibly infectious. So please join us on a pictorial tour of the 2010 Alltech Kentucky Equestrian Games promotional Village in the grounds of Windsor Castle, the home of the HRH Queen Elizabeth and her family, who so graciously allowed the event to be held in the Gardens of the Castle. |
